Butter Privacy Notice

Spread Butter Inc. ("Butter," "we," "us," or "our")

1. Overview

This Privacy Notice explains how Spread Butter Inc. handles information when you use the Butter mobile app, the Butter custom keyboard, Butter themes, purchases, account features, and any related Butter services (together, the "Services").

Butter is a keyboard personalization app. The purpose of the Butter Keyboard is to let you use custom themes, sounds, visual styles, and related keyboard features. It is not designed to monitor what you type.

2. What Butter Does Not Collect

Butter is built around a simple privacy rule: your typing is yours. We do not collect keyboard input content.

• We do not keylog.

• We do not collect or store the text you type in other apps.

• We do not transmit a copy of your typed text to Butter servers.

• We do not collect your messages, DMs, emails, search queries, passwords, payment card information, one-time codes, or clipboard contents through the Butter Keyboard.

• We do not use what you type to build language models, train prediction systems, profile you, or target ads.

• We do not sell or share your keyboard input because we do not collect it.

• We do not collect contacts, calendars, precise location, biometric identifiers, voice recordings, installed-app lists, or facial scans through the Butter Keyboard.

When you type with the Butter Keyboard, iOS sends the characters to the app or text field you are using. Butter does not send a copy of that text to us.

3. About iOS "Allow Full Access"

Apple may show an "Allow Full Access" setting for third-party keyboards. Butter may use this permission only to support keyboard features such as loading your saved themes, sounds, settings, purchased content, or other account-related keyboard assets.

Turning on Full Access does not mean Butter keylogs you. Our no-keylogging commitment still applies: the Butter Keyboard does not record, collect, store, transmit, sell, or share the content you type.

4. Information We Collect

We collect only the information reasonably needed to provide and improve Butter. Depending on how you use the Services, this may include:

• You, when you create an account, customize a keyboard, upload content, make a purchase, use optional features, or contact us.

• Your device, app, and keyboard extension, for diagnostics, settings, entitlements, and feature functionality that does not include typed content.

• Service providers, such as authentication, database, crash reporting, analytics, payment, hosting, and support providers.

• Apple, for App Store purchases, subscriptions, refunds, and related transaction information.

6. How We Use Information

• Provide, operate, personalize, and improve the Services.

• Save, sync, equip, and restore your keyboard themes, settings, sounds, assets, and entitlements.

• Process purchases and manage paid features.

• Provide customer support and respond to requests.

• Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security incidents, bugs, and technical issues.

• Analyze aggregate or diagnostic trends so we can improve reliability and product design.

• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

7. How We Share Information

We do not sell keyboard input because we do not collect keyboard input. We also do not share keyboard input with advertising networks, analytics providers, or third-party AI services.

We may share limited information in the following situations:

• Service providers. We use trusted vendors for hosting, authentication, database storage, analytics, crash reporting, payments, customer support, security, and related operations. They may process information only as needed to provide services to Butter.

• Apple and app stores. Apple processes App Store purchases and may provide us transaction or entitlement information needed to unlock paid features.

• At your direction. For example, if you choose to share a theme, submit content, or contact support with files or screenshots, we process what you choose to provide.

• Legal, safety, and business transfers. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, to investigate abuse or security issues, or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, or sale of assets.

8. Advertising and Analytics

Butter does not use the content you type for advertising, analytics, profiling, or interest-based targeting. We may use privacy-conscious analytics and crash reporting to understand app performance and product usage, but those tools must not receive the words, messages, searches, or other text you type through the Butter Keyboard.

If Butter later introduces advertising or new tracking features, we will update this Privacy Notice and provide any choices required by law.

9. Photos, Media, and Device Permissions

Butter may request access to selected photos, media, or files only when you choose to create, upload, or customize a theme or asset. We use those files only to provide the feature you requested. You can control app permissions through your device settings.

Butter does not need access to your contacts, calendar, precise location, microphone, camera, or installed-app list to operate the core keyboard personalization features. If a future feature requests one of these permissions, we will explain why at the time of the request.

10. Data Retention

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Notice, including to provide the Services, maintain your account and purchases, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent fraud, and maintain security.

If you delete your account or request deletion, we will delete or anonymize personal information associated with your account unless we need to keep it for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, or legitimate business reasons. We cannot delete information we never collected, including keyboard input content.

11. Your Choices

• Account. You may update or delete account information through the Butter app where available or by contacting us.

• Permissions. You can manage app and keyboard permissions in iOS Settings.

• Photos and uploads. You choose which files or images to upload to Butter.

• Purchases. App Store purchases and subscriptions are managed through Apple.

• Marketing. You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in the email or by contacting us.

12. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information we collect. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a security incident that affects your information, we will take steps required by applicable law.

13. Children's Privacy

Butter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

14. Regional Privacy Rights

California and other U.S. state privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information we hold about you, and to appeal certain decisions. You may also have the right to opt out of certain sales, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling. Butter does not sell personal information, and Butter does not sell or share keyboard input because we do not collect keyboard input.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and similar regions

If applicable law grants you privacy rights, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection to certain processing of your personal information. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Legal bases for processing may include performance of a contract, consent, legitimate interests, compliance with legal obligations, and protection of rights and safety. If we transfer personal information internationally, we use safeguards required by applicable law where required.

16. Changes to This Privacy Notice

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice as required by law. The "Last Updated" date above shows when this Privacy Notice was last revised.

Plain-English Summary

• Butter does not keylog. We do not record, collect, store, transmit, sell, or share what you type through the Butter Keyboard.

• Typed content stays private. Messages, searches, passwords, payment details, emails, DMs, and clipboard contents are not collected through the Butter Keyboard.

• Full Access is for keyboard features, not surveillance. It helps Butter load themes, sounds, settings, or purchases, but it does not change our no-keylogging commitment.

• We collect customization/account data. For example: your account, themes, settings, purchases, crash logs, and content you intentionally upload.

• We do not use typing for ads or AI. Because we do not collect typed content, we cannot use it for ads, profiling, language model training, or third-party AI services.
